Lanna Clothes Design started as a small woman-led business in rural Thailand. The owner was highly dependent on the tourist season for sales and had to travel extensively throughout the region to reach her customers in tourist centers and popular markets. Struggling to make ends meet, Lanna Clothes Design established an online store through its website, which did increase sales but also overwhelmed the owner with the logistics of fulfilling the orders herself, especially communicating with her customers and international shipping. After attending an Amazon Global Selling Workshop, Lanna Clothes Design opened an ecommerce store with Amazon. Within 10 months of enrolling the business with Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA), Lanna Clothes Design grew 70%, with sales on Amazon making up 85% of its total orders. The business also grew its staff from 5 to 20 fulltime employees. With customer service and international order shipments now handled by FBA, the owner could focus on her signature designs and increasing production. Becoming an ecommerce business through the Amazon platform significantly improved the lives of the family, employees and the community – twice a year, Lanna Clothes Design donates clothing and food to a nearby orphanage with 600 children and is also able to mentor other local designers and businesses.
