MODERN SPICE ROUTES: THE CULTURAL IMPACT AND ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY OF CROSS-BORDER SHOPPING

According to the Modern Spice Routes report authors, there are five distinct types of the more than 100 million cross-border online shoppers: the Fearless Adventurer, the Efficient Explorer, the Value Voyager, the Safety Seeker and the Deal Hunter. Their combined spending power will reach over $300 billion by 2018. This Nielsen Company and PayPal study of cross-border shopping from six key markets – USA, UK, Germany, China, Brazil and Australia – examines the different behaviors, trends and consumer concerns to help online merchants better understand the global marketplace and who is buying what and where. It also identifies the top reasons for buying online from overseas, explains security concerns as the major barrier to cross-border purchases and looks at which nationalities place the greatest importance on having buyer protection.
